How To Choose Blogging Platform

This week I get around 20 emails asking about "How To Start Blogging". The first thing I want to say is blogging is very easy, but it needs dedication and patience in the beginning. Blogging is very popular these days and it is very useful too. You can even choose this as your career if you are passionate about blogging. You can even earn money from your blog without doing much effort. I hope now you are interested in blogging. There are two most famous blogging platforms on the internet :

• Blogger
• Wordpress

You can choose any one of them, but in my opinion Wordpress is the best option to start blogging if you want to earn from your blog or either you can choose Blogger. Both platforms are good and easy to use. If you want to make a blog just as a Hobbie then Blogger is the best choice, but if you want to be a professional blogger then without thinking much just go with Wordpress. Now you're thinking why I'm saying Wordpress is better than Blogger, there are so many reasons. 

Blogger :

Advantages : Blogger is a free blogging service hosted by Google. The blogger is an amazing platform for newbies. Blogger also gives you a blogspot.com subdomain with your blog. Blogger also has some nice features and widgets. It is very user friendly. The best feature of Blogger is "It's totally free", you don't need any hosting plan or anything to start a blog with Blogger. You can also add a Google Adsense account on your blog to earn money. Blogger gives you the freedom to install any template on your blog and you can also customize your current template. Blogger offers a nice range of widgets and you can also make your own, if you know html and any scripting language. Blogger is the best choice as a free blogging platform. Even this blog is also on blogger but we are also planning to migrate to Wordpress soon.

Disadvantages : Many people don't know the drawbacks of Blogger before starting a blog on it. The limits here aren't very limiting. You can have up to 100 blogs per account, but there is no limit on the number of posts that you can have on your blog. Individual posts do not have a specific size limit but very large posts may run up against the page size limit. Individual pages are limited to 1 MB size, usually html pages costs 250 to 500 KB so 1 MB is pretty much. But if you hit the limit, you will see an error message saying "006 Please Contact Blogger Support". You can add 2000 unique labels per blog. You can have only 20 static pages on your blog. There is no limit on the number of comments, you blog can have any number of comments. Your all blogs have only 1 GB total photo storage sharing with Picasa web including your google+ and YouTube pictures, after that you need to buy an image hosting plan from Google. Your blog description is limited to 500 characters, but it's enough to describe your blog. There is no official templates provider for blogger, you need to find all the templates yourself. Blogger has very limited widgets, but you can install new widgets just by editing your templates. Other limits doesn't matter yet.

Wordpress : 

Advantages : Wordpress has so many amazing features but I will introduce you to some of the best features of Wordpress. It powers almost 17% of the whole world wide web, the best thing about Wordpress is its simplicity. You don't need to mess up in codes, you can post anything with a single click. You can also make unlimited stand alone pages, which is limited in Blogger.Wordpress is very flexible, you can install any plugin according to your need. You can even import your old Blogger blog on Wordpress. You can even install any theme that you like. Wordpress is a very amazing feature, it creates meta tags automatically. Meta tags are special keywords that search engines use to find results for search queries. Wordpress is very easy to upgrade and there are so many hosting websites that provide one key installation of Wordpress. Disadvantages : The only drawback about Wordpress is premium features. You need to buy a hosting plan to use Wordpress. There are two Wordpress websites :

• Wordpress.org
• Wordpress.com

Wordpress.org is Wordpress package downloading website and you just need to upload it to your hosting website and Wordpress.com is hosting website like Blogger, but not features are like Blogger. Wordpress.com will show ads on your blog and if you want to remove the ads and access all the features of Wordpress then you need to buy a premium plan. Wordpress costs very much, so it's better to buy a cheap hosting plan.
